The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the match, Yale's Ethan Harrell sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nigel Veilleux narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Yale's Mohammad Hartley proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to save Yale from getting a goal against them. Nigel Veilleux showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Franklin Bourget in the 11th minute of the match. Downsview's Nigel Veilleux played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Franklin Bourget in the 14th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Downsview's Paschal Noël got a free kick in the 15th minute. Barton Werner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Franklin Bourget received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Nigel Veilleux tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Larry Denson was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 24th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Ethan Harrell managed to get in a good position for a shot. Yale's supporters rose to their feet, but Ethan Harrell was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nigel Veilleux breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 30 minutes into the game, Shon Hurt was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Downsview's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Yale the free kick. The supporters of Yale booed when Downsview was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Shon Hurt didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ethan Harrell in the 32nd minute of play forced Downsview's goalkeeper Nigel Veilleux to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Barton Werner in the 35th minute of play forced Yale's goalkeeper Mohammad Hartley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 39 minutes into the match, Yale's goal looked a bit too open when Benito Sams came free, but Mohammad Hartley reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ethan Harrell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Nigel Veilleux tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Franklin Bourget to strike the kick off in the second half. Ethan Harrell recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nigel Veilleux made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Ethan Harrell sent off a good shot on target. In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind Downsview's goalkeeper Nigel Veilleux, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Josh Saunders had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Franklin Bourget sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Paschal Noël managed to get in a good position for a shot. After 78 minutes, Harley Carlisle mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Downsview and the Yale players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 77 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Downsview! In the 80th minute, Yale got a penalty, and Corin Medley placed the ball unsaveable into goal, by the right post. Paschal Noël struck a weak shot in the 83rd minute. Mohammad Hartley didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Downsview. 84 minutes into the match, Barton Werner had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Mohammad Hartley. Yale's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Barton Werner was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. The supporters of Yale booed when Downsview was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benito Sams didn't get a good kick on the ball.
