Cruz Stearns tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 13 minutes into the game, Andreas Norwood recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Cruz Stearns. Andreas Norwood showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eric Croft got free with Cruz Stearns in the 19th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Eric Croft could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Cruz Stearns made a huge save. A collision led to Hermitage AFC getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Jarred McWilliams hit a great ball. When Brooks Darnell came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Savona fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brooks Darnell couldn't finish the play. In the 30th minute of the match Dirk Bond sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Patrick Beyer skillfully saved the ball. 32 minutes into the game, Roy Huntley cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Patrick Beyer stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Brooks Darnell's shot from short distance in the 42nd minute. After 43 minutes, Buck Benoit mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hermitage AFC and the Savona players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 44th minute Brooks Darnell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick Beyer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
