The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A hard shot 6 in the game by Jacinto Malone from a close distance when the talented Courtney Bolden managed to make a qualified save. Academy's players were relieved. After a rather tough play, Academy's Jae Gleason got a free kick in the 8th minute. Hiram Lockwood's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Courtney Bolden read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 10th minute of play. Horace Pitts didn't have the luck on his side when he, from a short distance, got a opportunity for a shot on goal in the 11th minute. The shot missed the goal on the right side and Horace Pitts ran dejectedly back to his position. Giuseppe Wray hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Lamar Riddle struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Malik Reese didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Academy. After having played for 35 minutes, Horace Pitts managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Dortmund FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Horace Pitts was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Jacinto Malone had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Courtney Bolden was out of position in the 39 minute of play, and Horace Pitts capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Horace Pitts really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bryan Gann in the 43rd minute of play forced Dortmund FC's goalkeeper Malik Reese to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hiram Lockwood's late challenge caught a Academy's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hiram Lockwood helped the player get up and apologised. 47 minutes into the match, Academy's goalkeeper Courtney Bolden had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jacinto Malone.

The wind increased when Lamar Riddle made the kick off in the second half. Bryan Gann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Malik Reese tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 73rd match minute, Dortmund FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Clemente Tovar to maneuver through the defense. Academy's Merrill Browning couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 74th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Dortmund FC. In the 75th match minute, Dortmund FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Clemente Tovar to maneuver through the defense.
