The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Masson FC's Reggie Houston proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Masson FC from getting a goal against them. After 21 played minutes Masson FC got a freekick which was hit by Modesto Springer. After a rather tough play, Masson FC's Paul Ferreira got a free kick in the 22nd minute. In the 28th minute, Roy Lyons hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Burl Werner took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 38th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Reggie Houston. Masson FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bradford Labrecque to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the game, Nestor Goldsmith was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vélez Sarsfield's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Masson FC the free kick. After 55 minutes, Modesto Springer mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Masson FC and the Vélez Sarsfield players grew even worse after the yellow card. Johnathan Weller was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 56th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After 57 played minutes Masson FC got a freekick which was hit by Thurman Givens. In the 61st minute Dusty Hoover shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reggie Houston saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Terry Temple was out of position in the 84 minute of play, and Bradford Labrecque capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Bradford Labrecque really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
