An unexpectedly hard shot by Vance Migneault in the 14th minute of play forced WELKÖNNEN's goalkeeper Rocco Herndon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Kent Burton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Godelieve Beaudry fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vélez Sarsfield's protests and gave Godelieve Beaudry a yellow card for diving instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kent Burton in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Terry Temple prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match clock showed 22 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Kent Burton sped through Vélez Sarsfield's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Terry Temple. 25 minutes into the game, Roy Lyons was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. In the 97th minute, Kent Burton left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The WELKÖNNEN fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-8. WELKÖNNEN's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
