In the 4th match minute, Montreal FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bradford Aupry to maneuver through the defense. Stanford Houser's late challenge caught a Canadian Devils's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Stanford Houser helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Montreal FC's Stanford Houser got a free kick in the 6th minute. Paul Champion took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Neville McNeal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 8th minute of the match, Alex Cousteau tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Paul Champion saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Paul Champion was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Michel Hatcher showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 9 minute of play. When Emmanuel Bernard came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Montreal FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emmanuel Bernard couldn't finish the play. In the 20th match minute, Canadian Devils was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mohammad Hahn to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Canadian Devils's Alex Cousteau got a free kick in the 22nd minute. When Dewayne Bérard came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Montreal FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dewayne Bérard couldn't finish the play. Roland Lizewski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emmanuel Bernard in the 32nd minute of the match. In the 35th minute, Dewayne Bérard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Emmanuel Bernard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roland Lizewski having to interfere. In the 46th minute, Mohammad Hahn hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Alex Cousteau made a kick off. Paul Champion made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alex Cousteau in the 53rd minute of play. 54 minutes into the match, Michel Hatcher had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Paul Champion. Montreal FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Michel Hatcher was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Michel Hatcher received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Paul Champion tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 58 played minutes Montreal FC got a freekick which was hit by Stanford Houser. Roland Lizewski made an important save on a dangerous shot by Emmanuel Bernard in the 64th minute. Montreal FC were furious when Grant Vernadeau was red carded, 66 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Grant Vernadeau hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. It was beautiful to see Canadian Devils's Byron Foucault in action when he in the 68th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Paul Champion showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alex Cousteau, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. In the 70th minute, Alex Cousteau ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Paul Champion was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Montreal FC's Paul Champion played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kirby Carlson in the 73rd minute of play. Paul Champion made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alex Cousteau in the 75th minute of play. With a little luck, Canadian Devils's Roland Lizewski got control of the ball when Clayton Émond tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Canadian Devils getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Neville McNeal hit a great ball. Bertram Comer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roland Lizewski having to interfere. Roland Lizewski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dewayne Bérard in the 84th minute of the match. 86 minutes into the match, Montreal FC's Bertram Comer sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Roland Lizewski narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 88th minute, Bradford Aupry hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paul Champion showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alex Cousteau in the 92nd minute of the match. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Canadian Devils fans cheered their team off the field, for while Montreal FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
