Ariel Ruth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Boniface Doiron in the 4th minute of the match. Graham Spangler took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ian Cantrell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 9 minutes into the game, Ian Cantrell lined in a short shot 1-0 behind a frustrated Graham Spangler. After having played for 14 minutes, Marion Woody managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MacKay AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marion Woody was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to L.A. Galaxy getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Arnaud Guay hit a great ball. After 20 minutes, Işık Tanyolaç mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the L.A. Galaxy and the MacKay AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Freddie Spencer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 23 minutes of play, MacKay AFC's Duane Burnham made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. MacKay AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave L.A. Galaxy the free kick. Marion Woody hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. In the 38th minute of the match, Marion Woody got a very nice opportunity to score, but Graham Spangler was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Boniface Doiron in the 40th minute of play forced MacKay AFC's goalkeeper Ariel Ruth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th minute of the match Juan McKinley sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Graham Spangler skillfully saved the ball.
