Brooks Shearer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leland Smallwood having to interfere. A collision led to Kaladar getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Brendan Barry hit a great ball. 10 minutes into the match, Nelson FC's Vance Brasseur sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Leland Smallwood narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Leland Smallwood showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brooks Shearer in the 13th minute of the match. Hershel Slater made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isiah Duplanty in the 16th minute of play. In the 28th minute, Isiah Duplanty hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Brooks Shearer hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Vance Brasseur struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Leland Smallwood didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Nelson FC. A collision led to Nelson FC getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Carmine Lawler hit a great ball. Hershel Slater took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Harley Pinneau, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 40 played minutes Kaladar got a freekick which was hit by Harley Pinneau. With a little luck, Kaladar's Leland Smallwood got control of the ball when Vance Brasseur tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nelson FC were awarded a corner in the 48th minute after Kaladar's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Bernie Childress took the corner. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Kaladar's goalie and right to Isidro Blackman. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Kaladar's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cary Kenney to make the kick off. If Brooks Shearer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 59th minute Vance Brasseur shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leland Smallwood saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brooks Shearer couldn't finish the play. Brooks Shearer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Leland Smallwood tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Nelson FC's Maurice Lilly got a free kick in the 68th minute. After 72 played minutes Nelson FC got a freekick which was hit by Vance Brasseur. In the 74th minute, Brooks Shearer made a precise shot to the right of Leland Smallwood. Kaladar's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. After a rather tough play, Kaladar's Isiah Duplanty got a free kick in the 80th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vance Brasseur in the 81st minute of play forced Kaladar's goalkeeper Leland Smallwood to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Brooks Shearer took the ball and in the 83 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Leland Smallwood. Leland Smallwood dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. 96 minutes into the game, Brendan Barry was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Kaladar's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nelson FC the free kick. Brendan Barry kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Nelson FC had won after a very even match.
