In the 19th match minute, Gonzalez was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mundo Eguiluz to maneuver through the defense. Baldovino Portero's late challenge caught a Lavalleja's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Gonzalez supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Lavalleja's performance. The match ended with a win for Lavalleja.
