In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind Buteler's goalkeeper Vinicio Poo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Serafino Tixido in the 14th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Vinicio Poo saved Buteler from getting behind. In the 17th minute, Serafino Tixido got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Galo Ontoria charged in rather forcefully in the 22nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Galo Ontoria the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 21 minutes into the game, one of C. A. Peñarol:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The audience was convinced that Serafino Tixido's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vinicio Poo was relentless in the 27th minute of the game. Vinicio Poo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Serafino Tixido in the 45th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Serafino Tixido was the one to do the kick off. Vinicio Poo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Serafino Tixido, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 53 minutes Buteler's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Galo Ontoria who took care of the corner kick. The attack was good, but when Estefan Badia in the 57th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Ubendu Fardi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vinicio Poo having to interfere. Serafino Tixido might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Vinicio Poo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Serafino Tixido ran back to his position shaking his head. Serafino Tixido received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Vinicio Poo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ubendu Fardi in the 70th minute of play forced Buteler's goalkeeper Vinicio Poo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, Serafino Tixido managed to get in a good position for a shot. C. A. Peñarol's supporters rose to their feet, but Serafino Tixido was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vinicio Poo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Serafino Tixido sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Serafino Tixido couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Guillelmus Arzallos during the 89th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After having played for 91 minutes, Serafino Tixido managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. C. A. Peñarol's supporters crossed their fingers, but Serafino Tixido was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 94th minute Camerino Borica shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hector Yanes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Buteler eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
