In the 22nd minute, one of Marangua:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Marangua. Kiko Lopez shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. In the 26th minute, Marangua's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Zé Arce fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Nilton Gonçalves went to the wrong direction when Kiko Lopez was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. In the 33rd match minute, E.C Laranjeira was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jefferson Pereira to maneuver through the defense. In the 35th minute João Vítor Gaúcho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Vítor Fontes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Marangua's Nilton Gonçalves got control of the ball when Zé Arce tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Marangua getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Caco do Nascimento hit a great ball. In the 46th minute, E.C Laranjeira's Manfredo Medeiros ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Nilton Gonçalves. Nilton Gonçalves yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Manfredo Medeiros to strike the kick off in the second half. Claudinho Travassos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manfredo Medeiros in the 58th minute of play forced Marangua's goalkeeper Nilton Gonçalves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Marangua's goalkeeper Nilton Gonçalves, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. João Vítor Gaúcho struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. José Vítor Fontes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Marangua. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Manfredo Medeiros in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nilton Gonçalves prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Zé Arce might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nilton Gonçalves. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zé Arce ran back to his position shaking his head. If Manfredo Medeiros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Zé Arce came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the E.C Laranjeira fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zé Arce couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Manfredo Medeiros's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nilton Gonçalves was relentless in the 89th minute of the game. 90 minutes into the game, one of E.C Laranjeira:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The goalkeeper, José Vítor Fontes, was totally fooled by Marangua's Edgar de Barros, who 92 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. José Vítor Fontes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Vítor Gaúcho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Marangua supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Marangua would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
