Claudinei Linares's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Willian Alvarenga read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. In the 23rd match minute, Marfinzeiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raimundo de Andrade to maneuver through the defense. Claudinei Linares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Armando Pinho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oséas Bueno in the 29th minute of the match. The supporters of Marfinzeiro booed when Esporte porto Alegre was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cícero Mattos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rômulo Costa charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rômulo Costa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 33rd match minute, Marfinzeiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rômulo Costa to maneuver through the defense. 35 minutes into the match, Marfinzeiro's goalkeeper Willian Alvarenga had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Claudinei Linares. When Tomás Carvalho came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Esporte porto Alegre fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomás Carvalho couldn't finish the play. But to his dismay, Oséas Bueno quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The Esporte porto Alegre players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Marfinzeiro were winning 0-1.

55 minutes into the match, Esporte porto Alegre's goal looked a bit too open when Oséas Bueno came free, but Armando Pinho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 58th minute, Raimundo de Andrade reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Armando Pinho. The goal made the score 0-2. After 66 played minutes Oséas Bueno rounded Esporte porto Alegre's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 0-3. In the 69th minute Oséas Bueno shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Armando Pinho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Claudinei Linares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Claudinei Linares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willian Alvarenga having to interfere. Dalmo Castro struck a weak shot in the 80th minute. Willian Alvarenga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Esporte porto Alegre. After a rather tough play, Esporte porto Alegre's Jaime Queiroz got a free kick in the 83rd minute. After some careless play in the Esporte porto Alegre defense, Rômulo Costa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Armando Pinho. The Esporte porto Alegre fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Armando Pinho should have stopped the shot.
