But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tanio Beneitez couldn't finish the play. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Coritiba FC's goalkeeper Anísio Maranhense, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Filipe Amorim received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Anísio Maranhense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Filipe Amorim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Anísio Maranhense having to interfere. Remo Cerezo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cosmin Bărnuțiu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. Radomil Walicki charged in rather forcefully in the 24th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Radomil Walicki the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The crowd rose to their feet as Coritiba FC's Juarês da Silveira slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Cosmin Bărnuțiu. That made the score 1-0 after 26 minutes of play. In the 30th minute, Tarcisio Sena got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Remo Cerezo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Cosmin Bărnuțiu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Filipe Amorim's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Anísio Maranhense was relentless in the 39th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Coritiba FC's zone, Custódio Paulista stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Anísio Maranhense came out of the goal and Custódio Paulista tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 42 played minutes Coritiba FC got a freekick which was hit by Aníbal da Costa. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tanio Beneitez in the 43rd minute of play forced Coritiba FC's goalkeeper Anísio Maranhense to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th match minute, Girondins de Bordeaux was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Filipe Amorim to maneuver through the defense. 47 minutes into the game, Emerson de Castro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Coritiba FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Girondins de Bordeaux the free kick. After 47 played minutes Coritiba FC got a freekick which was hit by Emerson de Castro. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Juarês da Silveira made a kick off. Filipe Amorim's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 53rdth minute, Anísio Maranhense skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juarês da Silveira in the 56th minute of play forced Girondins de Bordeaux's goalkeeper Cosmin Bărnuțiu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Filipe Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cosmin Bărnuțiu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juarês da Silveira, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Filipe Amorim's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Anísio Maranhense read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. With a little luck, Coritiba FC's Anísio Maranhense got control of the ball when Filipe Amorim tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match clock showed 72 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Filipe Amorim sped through Coritiba FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Anísio Maranhense. Dedé Cavalcante hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. In the 87th minute, Girondins de Bordeaux's Filipe Amorim ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Anísio Maranhense. Anísio Maranhense yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-2. After 91 played minutes Girondins de Bordeaux got a freekick which was hit by Tanio Beneitez. In the 92nd minute, Rômulo Fontes sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Girondins de Bordeaux's Cosmin Bărnuțiu didn't even have to move. After a defensive mix-up in Coritiba FC's zone, Silvinho Bittencourt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Anísio Maranhense came out of the goal and Silvinho Bittencourt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Girondins de Bordeaux played a much better game than Coritiba FC and deserved their victory. The Coritiba FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
