Clube Atlético Vicentino's Dihnekis Stamatelos got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eusébio Correia got free with Alfredão Esteves in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Elói Furlan came out of the goal in the 20th minute to try and stop a shot by Clube Atlético Vicentino's Dihnekis Stamatelos. But to his dismay, Dihnekis Stamatelos quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in Defensor-URU's zone, Dihnekis Stamatelos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Elói Furlan came out of the goal and Dihnekis Stamatelos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 32 minutes, Dalmo de Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Defensor-URU's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dalmo de Barros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Charles Mota had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Geovani Monteiro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alfredão Esteves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dihnekis Stamatelos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dihnekis Stamatelos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elói Furlan having to interfere. Elói Furlan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dihnekis Stamatelos in the 58th minute of the match.
