But to his dismay, Falcão de Lara quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Waldemar Alvarenga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Abelardo Netto having to interfere. If Rony Veloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 22 minutes, Romário Fonseca mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Caru SS and the Real Capixaba players grew even worse after the yellow card. Abelardo Netto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Waldemar Alvarenga, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Abelardo Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mauro Leme in the 39th minute of play. In the 64th minute Waldemar Alvarenga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Abelardo Netto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Guto Varela sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
