An unexpectedly hard shot by Sydney Esteves in the 26th minute of play forced Santos's goalkeeper Dalmo Gerber to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chiquinho Valladares got a throw-in 27 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Fausto Cerezo. Sydney Esteves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Dalmo Gerber tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 45 minutes into the match, Santos's goal looked a bit too open when João Carlos Favoretto came free, but Dalmo Gerber reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tião Barreto ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Evaristo Amaral almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Santos's Dalmo Gerber did a great save. When Sydney Esteves came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Martim EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sydney Esteves couldn't finish the play. Dalmo Gerber was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Amadeu Proença got his second yellow card in the match during the 87th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, Santos's Amadeu Proença got a free kick in the 87th minute. When the final whistle sounded Martim EC left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Santos.
