When Conrado Santana fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Marizopolis's protests and gave Conrado Santana a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Marizopolis getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Conrado Santana hit a great ball. 22 minutes into the game, Marcel de Amaral was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. After 28 played minutes, Itaperiu's Vágner Gaúcho shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rodolfo Montenegro came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Itaperiu reached it. Rodolfo Montenegro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcel de Amaral, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rodolfo Montenegro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vágner Gaúcho, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. 34 minutes into the match, Vágner Gaúcho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rodolfo Montenegro. Marizopolis's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vágner Gaúcho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1.
