The tension between the Gomes SS and the VPR FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 9th match minute, Gomes SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristian do Vale to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of VPR FC booed when Gomes SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Gustavo Mumbach didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rogério Leite was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 11th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Alfredo Quirino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Gustavo Mumbach in the 16th minute of play. Alfredo Quirino stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luís Fábio do Nascimento's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fábio do Nascimento in the 24th minute of play forced VPR FC's goalkeeper Alfredo Quirino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in VPR FC's zone, Celso Moreno stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredo Quirino came out of the goal and Celso Moreno tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 27th minute Luís Fábio do Nascimento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredo Quirino saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alfredo Quirino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Celso Moreno, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. After a rather tough play, VPR FC's Germano Fernandes got a free kick in the 29th minute. Alfredo Quirino took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Celso Moreno, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Luís Fábio do Nascimento made the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, VPR FC's Alfredo Quirino got control of the ball when Celso Moreno tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sabino Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mauro da Costa in the 59th minute of play. A collision led to Gomes SS getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Sabino Leão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mauro da Costa in the 96th minute of the match. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
