The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Germano Fernandes during the 29th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, VPR FC's Germano Fernandes got a free kick in the 29th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling João Carlos de Amorim in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfredo Quirino prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 47 played minutes Cambota got a freekick which was hit by Kléberson Mello. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. João Carlos de Amorim was the one to do the kick off. Alfredo Quirino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Carlos de Amorim, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 63rd minute, Enrique Trigo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Carlos de Amorim in the 65th minute of play forced VPR FC's goalkeeper Alfredo Quirino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Egídio Cavalcante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sidney Cruz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mauro da Costa in the 71st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Cambota's zone, Egídio Cavalcante stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sidney Cruz came out of the goal and Egídio Cavalcante tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 79th minute, Egídio Cavalcante got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. João Carlos de Amorim struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Alfredo Quirino didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cambota. Alfredo Quirino took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Carlos de Amorim, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alfredo Quirino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Enrique Trigo in the 87th minute of play. After some careless play in the VPR FC defense, João Carlos de Amorim kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alfredo Quirino. The VPR FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alfredo Quirino should have stopped the shot. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
