Armindo da Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dinei Arruda didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Pedro Paulo Jacinto went, in the 8th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Luizinho Nogueira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Saguoes getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Adrianinho Aguiar hit a great ball. Luizão Salgado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eurico Batista, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. In a very dangerous position, a player in Vasco da Gama fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 22nd minute. Penalty! The goalkeeper, Luizão Salgado, was totally fooled by Saguoes's Gilberto Melo, who 23 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Dinei Arruda showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luizinho Nogueira, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. In the 35th minute, Vasco da Gama's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Wiliam Medeiros fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Eurico Batista blasted a shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Luizão Salgado having to make a save. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Luizão Salgado showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Vasco da Gama's zone, Wiliam Medeiros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luizão Salgado came out of the goal and Wiliam Medeiros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luizinho Nogueira to make the kick off. A collision led to Vasco da Gama getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. André Luís Araújo hit a great ball. Saguoes's Dinei Arruda played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luizinho Nogueira in the 71st minute of play. 74 minutes into the game, Saguoes's Eurico Batista nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Luizão Salgado made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Eurico Batista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Luizão Salgado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eurico Batista in the 82nd minute of the match. If Pedro Paulo Jacinto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 85 minutes in the game, Luizinho Nogueira fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Dinei Arruda having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eurico Batista in the 93rd minute of play forced Vasco da Gama's goalkeeper Luizão Salgado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eurico Batista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
