After a defensive mix-up in Giqui SS's zone, Paulo José de Senna stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. André Luiz Pimenta came out of the goal and Paulo José de Senna tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. São Paulo's Dalmo Campidelis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cido Leão in the 34th minute of play. Alessandro Carneiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. André Luiz Pimenta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dalmo Campidelis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edmílson Barros, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

A collision led to São Paulo getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Alessandro Carneiro hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Raúl Pinho got free with Dalmo Campidelis in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 83 played minutes São Paulo got a freekick which was hit by Fellipe Rodrigues. André Luiz Pimenta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fellipe Rodrigues in the 88th minute of play. After 90 minutes Giqui SS's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Alessandro Carneiro who took care of the corner kick. The corner led São Paulo's Alessandro Carneiro to fire away a dangerous shot which André Luiz Pimenta despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. São Paulo walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
