The audience was convinced that Guto Santos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cássio de Senna was relentless in the 6th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Rubens Mesquita got a free kick in the 8th minute. In the 19th match minute, Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guto Santos to maneuver through the defense. When Ediberto Toscano fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Palmeiras's protests and gave Ediberto Toscano a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 21st minute of the game. One of Palmeiras:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Arnold Sport Clube:s goal. Rafa Montenegro shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Claudinei Neto made an important save on a dangerous shot by Iuri Macedo in the 27th minute. In the 28th minute, Nelsinho Chaves got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Guto Santos struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Cássio de Senna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Palmeiras. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nelsinho Chaves in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Claudinei Neto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Iuri Macedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Claudinei Neto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelsinho Chaves in the 45th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nelsinho Chaves to make the kick off. Claudinei Neto was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Arnold Sport Clube had won after a very even match.
