Acácio Koehler's late challenge caught a Cruzeiro's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Acácio Koehler helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Cruzeiro booed when Valinhos Environmental was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Acácio Koehler didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kléber Cavalcante blasted a shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nuno Britto having to make a save. Giuseppe Guerra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Acácio Koehler, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. After some careless play in the Valinhos Environmental defense, César Duarte kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nuno Britto. The Valinhos Environmental fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nuno Britto should have stopped the shot. Vito Furlan took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 22nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Giuseppe Guerra. Cruzeiro's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 23rd minute Basílio Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Giuseppe Guerra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 28 minutes into the game, César Duarte cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Nuno Britto was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Acácio Koehler in the 32nd minute of play forced Cruzeiro's goalkeeper Giuseppe Guerra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cruzeiro's Giuseppe Guerra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anselmo Neiva in the 35th minute of play. After 35 played minutes Cruzeiro got a freekick which was hit by Nestor Catarinense. In the 36th minute of the match Vito Furlan shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Giuseppe Guerra showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. César Duarte could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Nuno Britto made a huge save. Kléber Cavalcante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 45 minutes, Caco Pereira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Valinhos Environmental and the Cruzeiro players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Valinhos Environmental getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Caco Pereira hit a great ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

In the 52nd minute, César Duarte left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cruzeiro fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. Valinhos Environmental's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that César Duarte was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-0. Kléber Cavalcante received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Nuno Britto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nuno Britto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kléber Cavalcante, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Kléber Cavalcante fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nuno Britto having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kléber Cavalcante in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nuno Britto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 79th minute Kléber Cavalcante shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nuno Britto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Valinhos Environmental's Dieguinho Fonseca got a free kick in the 82nd minute. Giuseppe Guerra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anselmo Neiva in the 85th minute of the match. Kléber Cavalcante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Cruzeiro fans' excitement grew in the 91st match minute when Cruzeiro's Kléber Cavalcante looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 6-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Cruzeiro fully deserved thier win.
