After a rather tough play, Taquarembo SC's Egídio Gonçalves got a free kick in the 15th minute. Dino Guimarães succeeded in the game's 16th minute to get real power on a long shot . Taquarembo SC's Antônio Carlos Cardoso hadn't the time to block the shot which was pasted into the goal, 1-0! Renato Godoi struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Antônio Carlos Cardoso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Blue Mountain State. Taquarembo SC's Antônio Carlos Cardoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tostão Recife in the 22nd minute of play. Dalmo Bastos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricardinho Lima in the 29th minute of play. Valério Cearense hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. After 34 played minutes Blue Mountain State got a freekick which was hit by Dino Guimarães. When Alberto Galvão came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Taquarembo SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Galvão couldn't finish the play. Dalmo Bastos stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ricardinho Lima's shot from short distance in the 42nd minute. In the 43rd minute, Tostão Recife ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Antônio Carlos Cardoso was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Renato Godoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Antônio Carlos Cardoso having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tostão Recife made a kick off. In the 60th minute, Dino Guimarães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 66th match minute, Blue Mountain State was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dino Guimarães to maneuver through the defense. When Alberto Galvão came up free with the goalie in the 67th minute, the Taquarembo SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Galvão couldn't finish the play. Dalmo Bastos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ricardinho Lima, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 72 minutes, Alberto Galvão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Taquarembo SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alberto Galvão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dino Guimarães was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 79 minutes into the match. In a very dangerous position, a player in Blue Mountain State fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 79th minute. Penalty! The goalkeeper, Dalmo Bastos, was totally fooled by Taquarembo SC's Egídio Gonçalves, who 81 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. If Alberto Galvão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 89 minutes into the game, Taquarembo SC's Ricardinho Lima nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dalmo Bastos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Taquarembo SC's Alberto Galvão got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
