Ivo Machado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. But to his dismay, Jorge Mendonça quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Genílson Montenegro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bernardinho Camargo, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. When Renatinho Veloso came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the Xurupita Futebol Clube fans jumped to their feet. Renatinho Veloso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Genílson Montenegro having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Bernardinho Camargo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Xurupita Futebol Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Bernardinho Camargo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
