When Telmo Bertassi came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Cafuta fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Telmo Bertassi couldn't finish the play. Zé Roberto Putchenko's late challenge caught a Cafuta's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Zé Roberto Putchenko helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to VARGEM ALEGRE F.C getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Zé Roberto Putchenko hit a great ball. Claudinei Cunha struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Simão Salgado didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cafuta. 15 minutes into the match, Décio Sá had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Simão Salgado. VARGEM ALEGRE F.C's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Décio Sá was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Inácio Mangueira hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Décio Sá recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Cafuta's goalkeeper Aírton Massa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rômulo Negri hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Cafuta's zone, Takis Chatzis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aírton Massa came out of the goal and Takis Chatzis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Roberto Pimenta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 25 played minutes Cafuta got a freekick which was hit by Claudinei Cunha. Aírton Massa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Roberto Pimenta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Roberto Pimenta succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-1 in the 27th playminute. In the 31st minute of the match, Rubinho Freire got a very nice opportunity to score, but Aírton Massa was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Telmo Bertassi in the 33rd minute of play forced VARGEM ALEGRE F.C's goalkeeper Simão Salgado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Roberto Pimenta was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 38th minute. VARGEM ALEGRE F.C's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Aírton Massa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roberto Pimenta in the 40th minute of play. After some careless play in the Cafuta defense, Roberto Pimenta kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Aírton Massa. The Cafuta fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Aírton Massa should have stopped the shot.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Roberto Pimenta was the one to do the kick off. Décio Sá kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. Manfredo Batista scored 3-1 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Aírton Massa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 60 minutes into the match, VARGEM ALEGRE F.C's goalkeeper Simão Salgado had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tião Costa. An unexpectedly hard shot by Telmo Bertassi in the 61st minute of play forced VARGEM ALEGRE F.C's goalkeeper Simão Salgado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Aírton Massa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roberto Pimenta in the 63rd minute of play. Inácio Mangueira charged in rather forcefully in the 72nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Inácio Mangueira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to VARGEM ALEGRE F.C getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Inácio Mangueira hit a great ball. 76 minutes into the match, Cafuta's Claudinei Cunha broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. 78 minutes into the match, Roberto Pimenta notched a goal, 4-1, to the right of Cafuta's Aírton Massa. Aírton Massa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The audience was convinced that Roberto Pimenta's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Aírton Massa was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game. Manfredo Batista recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match clock showed 85 minutes, the score became 5-1 when Roberto Pimenta sped through Cafuta's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Aírton Massa. The VARGEM ALEGRE F.C fans' excitement grew in the 89th match minute when VARGEM ALEGRE F.C's Roberto Pimenta looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 6-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Tião Costa hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Roberto Pimenta in the 93rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aírton Massa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. VARGEM ALEGRE F.C's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
