The audience was convinced that Waldemar Paiva's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Narciso Correia was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Caiapo EC's zone, Ronaldão Vidal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luiz Paulo Sabóia came out of the goal and Ronaldão Vidal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Luiz Paulo Sabóia made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Ronaldão Vidal sent off a good shot on target. Luiz Paulo Sabóia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dorival da Fonseca, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ronaldão Vidal got free with Luiz Paulo Sabóia in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ronaldão Vidal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Paulo Sabóia having to interfere. After having played for 46 minutes, Umberto do Valle managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jaguariaiva's supporters crossed their fingers, but Umberto do Valle was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Dorival da Fonseca made a kick off. The supporters of Jaguariaiva booed when Caiapo EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Betão Marinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcel Duarte hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. A collision led to Jaguariaiva getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Dorival da Fonseca hit a great ball. Dorival da Fonseca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Luiz Paulo Sabóia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Rubens Torres managed to get in a good position for a shot. Caiapo EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Rubens Torres was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Narciso Correia breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Rubens Torres had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Caiapo EC's Jânio Tróia pulled a muscle in his leg after 75 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Ronaldão Vidal's late challenge caught a Caiapo EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ronaldão Vidal helped the player get up and apologised. Caiapo EC made a substitution. Nicolas Andrade replaced Jânio Tróia. Narciso Correia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rubens Torres, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Narciso Correia made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Waldemar Paiva sent off a good shot on target. If Waldemar Paiva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 90 minutes into the match, Caiapo EC's goal looked a bit too open when Dorival da Fonseca came free, but Luiz Paulo Sabóia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dorival da Fonseca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Paulo Sabóia having to interfere. Caiapo EC were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
