After the first half Curytiba were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nestor de Queirós to make the kick off. Claudinho Brasil came out of the goal and Fábio Eger tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 81 minutes, Carlos Barral managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. A.S.São Caetano's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Barral was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Carlos Barral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 83 minutes, Fábio Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. A.S.São Caetano's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fábio Eger was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 94 played minutes Curytiba got a freekick which was hit by Silvério de Medeiros. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Curytiba had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
