The supporters of Tibagy booed when Itaroquem was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sérgio Meira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sérgio Meira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nilmar Leal having to interfere. 23 minutes into the game, Itaroquem's Léo Terra nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nilmar Leal made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Tibagy's Sílvio Luís Trigo got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sílvio Luís Trigo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Arnaldo Saldanha might have been able to make a better finish in the 33rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Sandrinho de Godoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Arnaldo Saldanha ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 39th minute Sérgio Meira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nilmar Leal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nilmar Leal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sérgio Meira in the 41st minute of the match. Itaroquem's Sérgio Meira got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Tibagy's zone, Léo Terra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nilmar Leal came out of the goal and Léo Terra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half Itaroquem were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Léo Terra stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Gino Gonçalves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Manolo Nóbrega hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Sérgio Meira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nilmar Leal having to interfere. Nilmar Leal acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 61st minute, took the ball on the long shot from Oséias Fernandez. Tibagy's Nilmar Leal proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Tibagy from getting a goal against them. Tibagy's Sílvio Luís Trigo got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Arnaldo Saldanha came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Tibagy fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arnaldo Saldanha couldn't finish the play. In the 93rd minute of the game, Benê Soares landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. After 93 minutes, Hílton Eger mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Itaroquem and the Tibagy players grew even worse after the yellow card. The Tibagy supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Itaroquem's performance. The match ended with a win for Itaroquem.
