Luís Guilherme Godoi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronaldão Netto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Clemente de Queiroz hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. 18 minutes into the match, Escuta's goalkeeper Robinho Cruz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zé Pedro Seco. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldão Netto in the 20th minute of play forced Caieira AD's goalkeeper Luís Guilherme Godoi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Caieira AD's Diego Rosa got a free kick in the 21st minute. After recieving a nice pass, Escuta's Sandrinho Mattos tried to score from far away in the 21st minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. If Betão Eger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 25th minute Ronaldão Netto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Guilherme Godoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Betão Eger struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Luís Guilherme Godoi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Escuta. In the 27th minute, Ronaldão Netto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ronaldão Netto might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luís Guilherme Godoi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ronaldão Netto ran back to his position shaking his head. After some careless play in the Caieira AD defense, Betão Eger kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Luís Guilherme Godoi. The Caieira AD fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luís Guilherme Godoi should have stopped the shot. After having played for 35 minutes, Betão Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Escuta's supporters crossed their fingers, but Betão Eger was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Zé Pedro Seco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Robinho Cruz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ronaldão Netto stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dieguinho Dante during the 64th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Denílson Brasil, 71 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Geovani Tinoco hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match.
