Wágner Salgado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luizinho Meireles having to interfere. After 5 played minutes Laje SC got a freekick which was hit by Cristiano Catarinense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wágner Salgado in the 10th minute of play forced Laje SC's goalkeeper Luizinho Meireles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luizinho Meireles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wiliam Lira, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. Fábio Coutinho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nelson Palmeira, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Laje SC's Afonso Toledo got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Wágner Salgado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luizinho Meireles having to interfere. If Afonso Toledo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fábio Coutinho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Afonso Toledo in the 40th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nelson Palmeira was the one to do the kick off. After 51 minutes, Zé Augusto Reis mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Xerebebeu F.C and the Laje SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 52 played minutes Xerebebeu F.C got a freekick which was hit by Zé Augusto Reis. Wágner Salgado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Xerebebeu F.C getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Cristian Leal hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelson Palmeira in the 61st minute of play forced Xerebebeu F.C's goalkeeper Fábio Coutinho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fábio Coutinho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Afonso Toledo in the 63rd minute of play. If Afonso Toledo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Xerebebeu F.C's Álvaro Rossi got a free kick in the 66th minute. In the 68th match minute, Xerebebeu F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jacinto Chaves to maneuver through the defense. Jacinto Chaves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Luizinho Meireles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 79 minutes, Wiliam Lira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Xerebebeu F.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wiliam Lira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an all-out effort, Xerebebeu F.C's Luizinho Meireles threw himself towards the right post 80 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Wiliam Lira, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. When Wiliam Lira came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Xerebebeu F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wiliam Lira couldn't finish the play. Fábio Coutinho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Evandro da Fonseca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 86 minutes into the match, Xerebebeu F.C's Wiliam Lira sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Luizinho Meireles narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Wágner Salgado recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fábio Coutinho came out of the goal in the 90th minute to try and stop a shot by Laje SC's Nelson Palmeira. But to his dismay, Nelson Palmeira quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. After 96 minutes, Álvaro Rossi mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Xerebebeu F.C and the Laje SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 95th minute, one of Xerebebeu F.C:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Xerebebeu F.C.
