Maraial's supporters rose to their feet, but Juvenal de Souza was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arí Amaral breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Aranha's Arí Amaral got control of the ball when Juvenal de Souza tried to sneak it across the goal line. Juvenal de Souzas short, quick shot in the 18thth minute got Arí Amaral to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. When Luiz Eduardo de Carvalho came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Aranha fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Eduardo de Carvalho couldn't finish the play. Maraial's Richard Gomes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Eduardo de Carvalho in the 29th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Angelo Lara to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juvenal de Souza in the 54th minute of play forced Aranha's goalkeeper Arí Amaral to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Aranha getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Dinei Mendonça hit a great ball. Arí Amaral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Angelo Lara, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. 58 minutes into the game, André Luís Cosme was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Aranha's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Maraial the free kick. A collision led to Aranha getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Arí Amaral dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. The supporters of Aranha booed when Maraial was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manfredo Saldanha didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arí Amaral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juvenal de Souza in the 74th minute of play. Tiago Gabriel Pontes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute.
