A wasted opportunity for América-RJ. 11 minutes into the match, Victoria's goal looked a bit too open when Michel Rosa came free, but Frédson Vander reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luciano Lima made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nilton Paranaense in the 12th minute of play. When the match clock showed 14 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Dagoberto Tróia sped through América-RJ's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Luciano Lima. Luciano Lima made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Dagoberto Tróia sent off a good shot on target. In the 19th minute, Giovanni Neves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, América-RJ's Luciano Lima got control of the ball when Dagoberto Tróia tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dagoberto Tróia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 30th minute there was a penalty for América-RJ. Cauã de Salles stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Frédson Vander. 1-1. In the 34th minute the ball was on its way in behind América-RJ's goalkeeper Luciano Lima, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 42 minutes, Nilton Paranaense took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Luciano Lima to make any attempt to save it. If Dagoberto Tróia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nilton Paranaense made a kick off. América-RJ's Luciano Lima played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dagoberto Tróia in the 57th minute of play. América-RJ's Humberto Falcão got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Victoria's Frédson Vander proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save Victoria from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Michel Rosa got free with Frédson Vander in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Frédson Vander took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Humberto Falcão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 70th minute, Dagoberto Tróia got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dagoberto Tróia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nilton Paranaense received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Luciano Lima tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Michel Rosa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frédson Vander having to interfere. Luciano Lima showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nilton Paranaense, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. Nilton Paranaense might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luciano Lima. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nilton Paranaense ran back to his position shaking his head. Válbson Varela's late challenge caught a Victoria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Válbson Varela helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, América-RJ's Válbson Varela got a free kick in the 90th minute. Luciano Lima took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dagoberto Tróia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
