Dráusio Madureira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Orlando Couto having to interfere. The Joa EC fans' excitement grew in the 9th match minute when Joa EC's Dráusio Madureira looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 24 played minutes Joa EC got a freekick which was hit by Dito Valadares. If José Vítor de Queirós had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 29th minute, Dito Valadares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the match had gone on for 33 minutes, Dráusio Madureira put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Orlando Couto. Dito Valadares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Orlando Couto having to interfere. After 40 minutes, Luisinho Neto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Argola and the Joa EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 40 played minutes Argola got a freekick which was hit by Luisinho Neto. Joa EC's Adilson Saldanha couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 41st minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Argola. In the 43rd minute Dráusio Madureira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Orlando Couto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Joa EC's Douglas Vander collided with an opponent after 43 minutes. He was hit so badly that he fractured his arm. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Deivid Ortiz during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Joa EC booed when Argola was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Deivid Ortiz didn't get a good kick on the ball. 47 minutes into the match, Argola's goal looked a bit too open when Dito Valadares came free, but Orlando Couto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

Joa EC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Adilson Saldanha in the 53rd minute. Argola's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dito Valadares was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. After a defensive mix-up in Joa EC's zone, José Vítor de Queirós stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oscar Lima came out of the goal and José Vítor de Queirós tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, José Vítor de Queirós managed to get in a good position for a shot. Argola's supporters rose to their feet, but José Vítor de Queirós was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Oscar Lima breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 65 minutes into the match, Joa EC's goal looked a bit too open when Perivaldo Rezende came free, but Oscar Lima reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. José Vítor de Queirós recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 76 minutes into the match, Joa EC's Dito Valadares sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Orlando Couto narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Joa EC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Adilson Saldanha in the 80th minute. Luisinho Neto got his second yellow card in the match during the 85th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Luisinho Neto hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. Dráusio Madureira struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Orlando Couto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Joa EC. 91 minutes into the match, Argola's goalkeeper Orlando Couto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dito Valadares. With his leg Orlando Couto managed to avoid a goal in the 95thth minute, when Joa EC's Dito Valadares fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Chico Munhoz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Orlando Couto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match was over Joa EC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Argola throughout the match.
