The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 7th minute, Noel Luz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Aripibu's supporters rose to their feet, but Noel Luz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcel Araújo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Elano Albuquerque recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 15th minute, Elano Albuquerque got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Pombal FC's Luisinho Pimenta got a free kick in the 18th minute. Marcel Araújo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dé de Senna went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Pombal FC's Marcel Araújo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tales Veloso in the 26th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Tales Veloso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Aripibu's supporters rose to their feet, but Tales Veloso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcel Araújo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pombal FC's Marcel Araújo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Pombal FC from getting a goal against them. Noel Luzs short, quick shot in the 37thth minute got Marcel Araújo to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. When Pombal FC's Elano Albuquerque in the 42nd minute got a chance for a shot 42nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Aripibu's goalie prevented a goal. After having played for 43 minutes, Elano Albuquerque managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pombal FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elano Albuquerque was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Elano Albuquerque charged in rather forcefully in the 44th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Elano Albuquerque the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 44th match minute, Pombal FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Elano Albuquerque to maneuver through the defense. If Noel Luz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 47 played minutes Pombal FC got a freekick which was hit by Jeferson Eger.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Elano Albuquerque was the one to do the kick off. Erasmo Braga stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Elano Albuquerque's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. With his leg Erasmo Braga managed to avoid a goal in the 56thth minute, when Pombal FC's Elano Albuquerque fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 68th match minute, Pombal FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raí Vander to maneuver through the defense. Tales Veloso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pombal FC's Marcel Araújo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Noel Luz in the 79th minute of play. Aripibu's Erasmo Braga proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to save Aripibu from getting a goal against them. In the 91st minute of the match William Pirani shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marcel Araújo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 93 played minutes, Aripibu's Luís Guilherme Cavalcante shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Marcel Araújo came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Aripibu reached it. Sabino Amaral held his arms out in dispair when he, after a nice solo performance in the 95th minute, finished the attack by shooting the ball on the wrong side of the right post. Pombal FC's Kléber Seco got a good chance for a goal in the 97th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Pombal FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
