Alfredo de Senna hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. Benedito Marinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sílvio Pires having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Benedito Marinho in the 9th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sílvio Pires prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Willian Lucas was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 14 minutes into the match. The supporters of National FC booed when Joinville EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Willian Lucas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sílvio Pires stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sílvio Luiz Cosme's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. Benedito Marinho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. João Vítor Meirelles might have been able to make a better finish in the 22nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Júlio Faria. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. João Vítor Meirelles ran back to his position shaking his head. Joinville EC's Sílvio Pires played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sílvio Luiz Cosme in the 24th minute of play. A collision led to Joinville EC getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Romário Cardozo hit a great ball. Benedito Marinho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as João Vítor Meirelles kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Júlio Faria. That made the score 1-0 in the 31 minute of play. Sílvio Luiz Cosme sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 42nd minute Benedito Marinho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sílvio Pires saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Váldson da Fonseca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Sílvio Pires tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for João Vítor Meirelles to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tiago de Amorim in the 51st minute of play forced Joinville EC's goalkeeper Sílvio Pires to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sílvio Pires came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by National FC's Sílvio Luiz Cosme. But to his dismay, Sílvio Luiz Cosme quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Sílvio Pires took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronaldo de Medeiros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 75 minutes of play, Joinville EC's João Vítor Meirelles made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Júlio Faria was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Ronaldo de Medeiros managed to get in a good position for a shot. National FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ronaldo de Medeiros was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sílvio Pires breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
