When Adilson Mello fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Atlético Maranhense's protests and gave Adilson Mello a yellow card for diving instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gilberto Fontes to make the kick off. Samuca Messias scored 5-1 in the 74th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jean Rossi, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jean Rossi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Samuca Messias in the 77th minute of the match. 86 minutes into the game, Cícero dos Santos threw the ball into play from the sideline. Time Imperial Verdadeiro's Luiz Fabiano Dante quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Gil Braga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jean Rossi having to interfere. After having played for 89 minutes, Samuca Messias managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal.
