Guarujá's goal looked a bit too open when Amauri Melo came free, but Andrés Muri reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Filiberto Theodore sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 26 minutes into the match, A.D. Guarujá's Cláudio Sá sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Faustão Vieira narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Filiberto Theodore blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Faustão Vieira having to make a save. Percy da Fonseca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andrés Muri having to interfere. MALAWI's Renatinho Cardoso suffered a concussion after 47 minutes and had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Filiberto Theodore during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 48th minute, Filiberto Theodore hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Frank Tande stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Filiberto Theodore had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in MALAWI's zone, Filiberto Theodore stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Faustão Vieira came out of the goal and Filiberto Theodore tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Filiberto Theodore struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. Faustão Vieira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for A.D. Guarujá. If Amauri Melo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 85 played minutes MALAWI got a freekick which was hit by Amauri Melo. Faustão Vieira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Filiberto Theodore, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Filiberto Theodore sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Filiberto Theodore had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
