The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jaime Perez had great luck who in the 5thth minute grab hold of the ball when Adalmo Cruz from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. 8 minutes into the match, Guivotas's goalkeeper Jaime Perez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Geovânio Figueiredo. Manolo Rezende sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 10th match minute, Guivotas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cássio Goiano to maneuver through the defense. If Lenílson Santana had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Guivotas's zone, Geovânio Figueiredo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jaime Perez came out of the goal and Geovânio Figueiredo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jaime Perez made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edgard Botelho in the 25th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Adalmo Cruz got free with Jaime Perez in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 32nd minute Nestor Urbano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Naldo Porto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nestor Urbano struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Naldo Porto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Guivotas. The supporters of Itamarandiba booed when Guivotas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. João Pirani didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nestor Urbano made a kick off. 52 minutes into the game, Cássio Sampaio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Itamarandiba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Guivotas the free kick. If Lenílson Santana had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Guivotas getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Frédson Gaspar hit a great ball. Nestor Urbano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 65 minutes into the game, Rony Jacinto was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Itamarandiba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Guivotas the free kick. After a rather tough play, Itamarandiba's Rony Jacinto got a free kick in the 65th minute. Naldo Porto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nestor Urbano in the 66th minute of the match. Jaime Perez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgard Botelho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 82 played minutes Guivotas got a freekick which was hit by Cássio Goiano. If Geovânio Figueiredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Cássio Goiano hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. In the 94th minute Rony Jacinto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jaime Perez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Guivotas succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Itamarandiba had controlled the match.
