If Alan Macedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Guarda getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Antônio Perez hit a great ball. José Maria Moura showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alan Macedo in the 24th minute of the match. Luizão França made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rubinho Pires in the 25th minute of play. The supporters of Guarda booed when Matta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Glauco Cardoso didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 27th minute, Paulinho Matorin sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Matta's Luizão França didn't even have to move. In the 33rd minute Carlos Fernando Cerezo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Maria Moura saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 36 minutes into the match, Matta's goalkeeper Luizão França had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nestor Maia. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Alan Macedo made a kick off. With a little luck, Guarda's José Maria Moura got control of the ball when Carlos Fernando Cerezo tried to sneak it across the goal line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Matta walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
