Mandim SC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 4th minute, when Manuel Pinheiro scored to the left of an out of position Antônio Mello, making the score, 1-0. Manuel Pinheiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Antônio Mello tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 9 minutes into the match, S. E. Filhos de Cristo's goal looked a bit too open when Ramón Cunha came free, but Joseph Lingren reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dênis Pirani fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Antônio Mello having to interfere. Manuel Pinheiros short, quick shot in the 12thth minute got Antônio Mello to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 16 minutes into the match, Percy Cabral notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of S. E. Filhos de Cristo's Joseph Lingren. Joseph Lingren was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Benjamim Maranhense was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 19 minutes into the match. In the 21st minute there was a penalty for Mandim SC. Luís Fábio Veiga stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Joseph Lingren. 1-2. S. E. Filhos de Cristo's Luisinho França got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 31st minute, Dênis Pirani made a precise shot to the right of Antônio Mello. Mandim SC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luiz Braga got free with Antônio Mello in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rodrigo Furtado recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 42 minutes into the game, Aloísio Favoretto was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mandim SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave S. E. Filhos de Cristo the free kick. A collision led to Mandim SC getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Aloísio Favoretto hit a great ball. After 43 played minutes, S. E. Filhos de Cristo's Manuel Pinheiro shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Antônio Mello came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in S. E. Filhos de Cristo reached it. If Rodrigo Furtado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

In the 54th minute, Dênis Pirani left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The S. E. Filhos de Cristo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. S. E. Filhos de Cristo's Rodrigo Furtado got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 60th minute Dênis Pirani shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Antônio Mello saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Luiz Braga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dênis Pirani sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Filhos de Cristo's Dênis Pirani nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Antônio Mello made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-2. Rodrigo Furtado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Antônio Mello tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Joseph Lingren showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dorival Fontes, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute.
