Narciso Xavier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Durvalino Quadros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. EC Petrópolis's Rafa Paranaense got a good chance for a goal in the 6th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Narciso Xavier fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored EC Petrópolis's protests and gave Narciso Xavier a yellow card for diving instead. Narciso Xavier hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. Luís Paulo Messias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kiko Massa having to interfere. In the 19th minute, Maxixe SC's Rui Secco seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Rui Secco the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Maxixe SC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rui Secco had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 19 minutes into the game, one of Maxixe SC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 26 minutes into the match, Maxixe SC's goal looked a bit too open when Narciso Xavier came free, but Durvalino Quadros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Maxixe SC getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Luís Gustavo Lucas hit a great ball. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Maxixe SC's goalkeeper Durvalino Quadros, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mané Ferraz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Narciso Xavier in the 34th minute of play forced Maxixe SC's goalkeeper Durvalino Quadros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Durvalino Quadros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Narciso Xavier in the 36th minute of the match. If Rafa Paranaense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 45 minutes into the match, Maxixe SC's goal looked a bit too open when Narciso Xavier came free, but Durvalino Quadros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 46th minute Narciso Xavier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Durvalino Quadros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Natã da Rocha kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match.

In the 54th match minute, EC Petrópolis was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edson Galvão to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Alfredo Tavares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Maxixe SC's supporters rose to their feet, but Alfredo Tavares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kiko Massa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Durvalino Quadros made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Narciso Xavier sent off a good shot on target. Sandro Linhares might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Kiko Massa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sandro Linhares ran back to his position shaking his head. João Paulo Queiroz charged in rather forcefully in the 77th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed João Paulo Queiroz the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. When Alfredo Tavares came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Maxixe SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfredo Tavares couldn't finish the play. Edson Galvão kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Narciso Xavier struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Durvalino Quadros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for EC Petrópolis. Sandro Linhares struck a weak shot in the 83rd minute. In the 93rd minute Rafa Paranaense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Durvalino Quadros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched EC Petrópolis eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
