Fred Moreira's late challenge caught a Academia do Palestra's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fred Moreira helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Bailique's Fred Moreira got a free kick in the 4th minute. Perivaldo Miranda was extremely unlucky when he, in the 5th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After 7 played minutes, Bailique's Fred Moreira shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Mauro Freire came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Bailique reached it. Joaquim Mesquita charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Joaquim Mesquita the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Bailique booed when Academia do Palestra was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joaquim Mesquita didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bailique's José Paulo de Sena couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 9th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Academia do Palestra. After a rather tough play, Bailique's José Paulo de Sena got a free kick in the 12th minute. After 13 played minutes, Academia do Palestra's Tarcisio Figueiredo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Silvinho Carioca came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. In the 18th minute, Academia do Palestra's Perivaldo Miranda ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Silvinho Carioca. Silvinho Carioca yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Academia do Palestra were furious when Antônio Carlos Rocha was red carded, 21 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. After 21 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Academia do Palestra! Academia do Palestra:s Mauro Freire showed great skill when he stopped José Paulo de Sena:s penalty. Luís Fábio Dante blasted a shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mauro Freire having to make a save. Luís Fabiano Sarmento blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mauro Freire having to make a save. In the 32nd match minute, Bailique was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alfredão de Barros to maneuver through the defense. Mauro Freire came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by Bailique's Luís Fábio Dante. But to his dismay, Luís Fábio Dante quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Academia do Palestra's Mauro Freire played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Fabiano Sarmento in the 41st minute of play. Luís Fábio Dante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 44th play minutes Luís Fábio Dante shot 1-2, a short shot which went by Mauro Freire and just under the crossbar into goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luís Fábio Dante to strike the kick off in the second half. Luís Fabiano Sarmento might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mauro Freire. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luís Fabiano Sarmento ran back to his position shaking his head. Academia do Palestra's Mauro Freire played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Fábio Dante in the 57th minute of play. Luís Fábio Dante did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-3 to the left of a surprised Mauro Freire 61 minutes into the match. After having played for 64 minutes, Erik Meira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bailique's supporters crossed their fingers, but Erik Meira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luís Fabiano Sarmento took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mauro Freire. Mauro Freire dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-4. When Luís Fabiano Sarmento came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Bailique fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luís Fabiano Sarmento couldn't finish the play. If Luís Fabiano Sarmento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luís Fábio Dante's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mauro Freire read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. In the 81st minute, Luís Fábio Dante reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Mauro Freire. The goal made the score 1-5. Luís Fabiano Sarmento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mauro Freire having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Luís Fábio Dante managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bailique's supporters rose to their feet, but Luís Fábio Dante was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mauro Freire breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Academia do Palestra's Mauro Freire got control of the ball when Luís Fabiano Sarmento tried to sneak it across the goal line. Bailique's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
