Cássio Pirani's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geraldo Fontes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. When José Maria Secco came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Recife Futebol Club fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Maria Secco couldn't finish the play. In the 40th minute, José Maria Secco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Geraldo Fontes was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Kashiwa Reysol's goalkeeper Geraldo Fontes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Geraldo Fontes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Maria Secco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 48th minute, José Maria Secco left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Recife Futebol Club fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-5.

A collision led to Kashiwa Reysol getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Geovani Santos hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling José Maria Secco in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Geraldo Fontes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Geraldo Fontes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from José Maria Secco in the 57th minute of the match. Geraldo Fontes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Maria Secco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kashiwa Reysol's Geraldo Fontes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Maria Secco in the 67th minute of play. If Cássio Pirani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 73 minutes into the match, Recife Futebol Club's Sandrinho Esteves sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Geraldo Fontes narrowly saved just below the crossbar. But to his dismay, Cássio Pirani quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-6. In the 82nd minute, José Maria Secco fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Cássio Pirani recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. José Maria Secco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geraldo Fontes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 85th minute of play. When Recife Futebol Club's José Maria Secco in the 87th minute got a chance for a shot 87th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Kashiwa Reysol's goalie prevented a goal. Cássio Pirani who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 88thth minute tested the skills of Geraldo Fontes when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cássio Pirani got free with Geraldo Fontes in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 92 minutes into the match, Kashiwa Reysol's goalkeeper Geraldo Fontes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cássio Pirani. Cássio Pirani did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-7 to the left of a surprised Geraldo Fontes 94 minutes into the match.
