The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Edinho Tasso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 3rd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gildo Loyola in the 5th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Donatello de Andrade saved Cerâmica Atletico Clube from getting behind. Caetano de Brito in the 6thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Durvalino Vergílio, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. A collision led to Fluminense Capixaba Clube getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Ramiro Fantini hit a great ball. Durvalino Vergílio didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Caetano de Brito went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Caetano de Brito came free with the goalkeeper in the 15th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Durvalino Vergílio could save by the left post. Durvalino Vergílio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mané Corrêa in the 16th minute of the match. During the 17th minute of the match Ramiro Fantini completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Ramiro Fantini a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Mané Corrêa received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Durvalino Vergílio came out and tried to block the shot, but Mané Corrêa slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 22nd minute. Durvalino Vergílio was out of position in the 30 minute of play, and Leopoldo Leal capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Leopoldo Leal really showed his touch with that goal: 3-0. Durvalino Vergílio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mané Corrêa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Gildo Loyola came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Fluminense Capixaba Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gildo Loyola couldn't finish the play. After 40 played minutes Fluminense Capixaba Clube got a freekick which was hit by Gildo Loyola. Leopoldo Leal might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Durvalino Vergílio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Leopoldo Leal ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, Fluminense Capixaba Clube's Miguel Saldanha got a free kick in the 44th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Miguel Saldanha to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute Caetano de Brito shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Durvalino Vergílio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Durvalino Vergílio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caetano de Brito, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. If Mané Corrêa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 70th match minute, Fluminense Capixaba Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Horácio Neto to maneuver through the defense. Durvalino Vergílio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Caetano de Brito in the 71st minute of play. In the 72nd minute Mané Corrêa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Durvalino Vergílio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Caetano de Brito in the 82nd minute of play forced Fluminense Capixaba Clube's goalkeeper Durvalino Vergílio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Edinho Tasso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edinho Tasso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donatello de Andrade having to interfere. After 91 minutes, Anselmo Penha mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cerâmica Atletico Clube and the Fluminense Capixaba Clube players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 91st minute, Anselmo Penha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 92nd minute, Miguel Saldanha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Cerâmica Atletico Clube had played much better football throughout.
