Afonso Borges made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hortêncio Santana in the 28th minute of play. In the 34th minute Tero Hanninen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ciro Dantas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Washington Magalhães received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Afonso Borges tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 38th minute of the match, Washington Magalhães tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Afonso Borges saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. If Tero Hanninen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Taboquinho AD getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Ademir das Neves hit a great ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Hortêncio Santana stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Piuma SS's goal looked a bit too open when Abel Magalhães came free, but Afonso Borges reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Piuma SS's Afonso Borges played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurinho Cosme in the 84th minute of play.
