If Rubens Lago had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marquinhos Marques made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Luís Eduardo Mangueira sent off a good shot on target. In the 44th minute of the match Silvinho Lara sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marquinhos Marques skillfully saved the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Eugênio Damião made the kick off in the second half. Severino de Alcântara's late challenge caught a Acegua's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Severino de Alcântara helped the player get up and apologised. The referee ignored Acegua's protests and gave Osmar Toscano a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Acegua getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Osmar Toscano hit a great ball. The referee felt a red card was in order, 75 minutes into the game, when Fabrício Cruz put in a rough tackle. Acegua:s Raúl Corrêa showed great skill when he stopped Severino de Alcântara:s penalty. Marquinhos Marques made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Silvinho Lara in the 80th minute of play.
