Elivélton Travassos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Leopoldo Batista received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Flavinho Rezende came out and tried to block the shot, but Leopoldo Batista slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 41st minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The wind increased when Fellipe Gomes made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Benjamim Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot. INDEPENDENCIA's supporters rose to their feet, but Benjamim Barros was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Flavinho Rezende breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 63rd minute, Róbson Maranhense left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. Elivélton Travassos came out of the goal and Fellipe Gomes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
