The crowd rose to their feet as Hélder Negri kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Giuseppe Breckenfeld. That made the score 1-0 in the 5 minute of play. João Francisco Rossi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Celso Leão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 14th minute of the match Luís Eduardo Custódio sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Celso Leão skillfully saved the ball. After having played for 18 minutes, Manuel Meirelles managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Clube Atlético Douradense's supporters crossed their fingers, but Manuel Meirelles was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, FLAMENGO's Kléberson de Castro got a free kick in the 19th minute. After 20 played minutes, Clube Atlético Douradense's Claudinho Barreto shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Celso Leão came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Clube Atlético Douradense reached it. 22 minutes into the match, FLAMENGO's Hélder Negri sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Giuseppe Breckenfeld narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 23 minutes, Frank da Mata mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Clube Atlético Douradense and the FLAMENGO players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of FLAMENGO booed when Clube Atlético Douradense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frank da Mata didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hélder Negri received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Giuseppe Breckenfeld tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 27th minute, Gilvan Favoretto ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Celso Leão was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. After having played for 39 minutes, Hélder Negri managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FLAMENGO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hélder Negri was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kléberson de Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giuseppe Breckenfeld having to interfere. In the 47th minute the ball was on its way in behind Clube Atlético Douradense's goalkeeper Giuseppe Breckenfeld, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 48th minute, Kléberson de Castro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gilvan Favoretto was the one to do the kick off. Hélder Negri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Giuseppe Breckenfeld having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Hélder Negri's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Giuseppe Breckenfeld was relentless in the 58th minute of the game. If Kléberson de Castro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hélder Negri hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. In the 67thth minute of the game Hélder Negri who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Clube Atlético Douradense's Giuseppe Breckenfeld was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Hélder Negri recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Hélder Negri had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kléberson de Castro in the 72nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Giuseppe Breckenfeld saved Clube Atlético Douradense from getting behind. After having played for 75 minutes, Hélder Negri managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FLAMENGO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hélder Negri was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Emerson Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Hélder Negri struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Giuseppe Breckenfeld didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FLAMENGO. When FLAMENGO's Hélder Negri in the 84th minute got a chance for a shot 84th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Clube Atlético Douradense's goalie prevented a goal. After 89 minutes, Hélder Negri made it 3-1 with a short kick to the right side. Clube Atlético Douradense's Giuseppe Breckenfeld tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 93rd minute Hélder Negri shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Giuseppe Breckenfeld saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Celso Leão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilvan Favoretto in the 94th minute of the match. In the 95th match minute, FLAMENGO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kléberson de Castro to maneuver through the defense. After 96 minutes of play, Clube Atlético Douradense's Manuel Meirelles made it 3-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Celso Leão was left in no man's land by his defense there! FLAMENGO walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
