Marcel Souto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Marcel Souto came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Athenas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marcel Souto couldn't finish the play. In the 28th minute the ball was on its way in behind leonardo fc's goalkeeper Nilson Moreno, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Anier Oier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Martin Nyman managed to get in a good position for a shot. Athenas's supporters rose to their feet, but Martin Nyman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nilson Moreno breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Martin Nyman kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. In the 36th minute, Abelardo Paulista hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Anier Oier's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nilson Moreno read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. The audience held their breath when Juvenal Sena in the 48th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Cornelio Urtun's left hand side. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Anier Oier to strike the kick off in the second half. With an all-out effort, Athenas's Nilson Moreno threw himself towards the right post 53 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Marcel Souto, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Martin Nyman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nilson Moreno read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. 59 minutes into the match, leonardo fc's goal looked a bit too open when Anier Oier came free, but Nilson Moreno reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 63 minutes into the match, Anier Oier dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Nilson Moreno, 0-1. After a rather tough play, Athenas's Nilmar Lira got a free kick in the 66th minute. Marcel Souto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Nilson Moreno tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nilson Moreno showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anier Oier, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. Marquinhos Lira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Martin Nyman got free with Nilson Moreno in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
